2014 – A Good Year

This has been a super year for Carl and me 🙂

Big move to Manhattan – met some awesome new friends and felt right at home here. So great to be back in the USA!

I started my new job at the digital marketing agency at the very beginning of the year. I really lucked out in that I work with a group of wonderful guys who are doing great things. I’ve learned so much about online marketing and about building a company from the ground up. Can’t wait to see what else is in store.

Carl proposed on Memorial Day 🙂 We were on vacation in
Florida and took a few days in the Keys (after a lovely first stop in Miami with Alanna and Fede). We closed out the restaurant talking about life and future and plans and he pulled out the ring. Loved that moment. Love him. And what a ring! Big thanks to Carl’s grandma for passing that on to us.

Then some bad news which led to some great news 🙂
Beginning of July I heard something snap in my ankle and couldn’t walk. Went to the ER and nurse told me they needed to take some XRays but wanted to do a pregnancy test first. I was pregnant! Carl was in the hospital room with me so we got the news at the same time. What a day! Turns out I had gotten pregnant about 2 weeks after Carl proposed 🙂

Baby was healthy and aside from my ankle
I was in good shape – full speed ahead. We are going to be parents!

And my ankle – not so great. Turns out one major tendon was not reconnected after my lawnmower accident long ago, and a smaller tendon that had been doing the work of 2 tendons had snapped and was beyond repair. So no tippy toes for now and a surgeon will need to build me a new tendon after the baby comes. But I can still walk with an ankle brace and should be ok as long as I don’t put on too much baby weight.

Big engagement party at my parents mid August – so great to see everyone, and Carl finally got to meet a lot of folks from my dad’s side of the family too. Still waiting a bit longer to announce baby, although my parents and his parents are keeping the secret with us 🙂

At the end of the summer, we have a small civil ceremony in Manhattan at City Hall, and are officially married! We start planning the church ceremony and reception in France for 2016, we’ll do the big celebration then.

In September, we find out we’re having a boy 🙂

While I’m getting rounder, Carl is getting leaner – training for the New York Marathon. He finishes in 3:36 – a new record for him. So proud!

Home to Wisconsin for Christmas, along with a baby shower and a surprise 60th Birthday party for my mom. What an amazing holiday season – we are all feeling the love!!
